Following two and a half grueling years of rigorous training under the legendary Sannin Master Jiraiya, a matured Naruto Uzumaki returns to Konohagakure (the Hidden Leaf Village). While Naruto has developed physically and refined his chakra control, the world around him has grown increasingly perilous. The rogue ninja syndicate known as the Akatsuki has initiated their grand strategy: hunting down all nine Jinchuriki across the ninja world to harvest their Tailed Beasts (Bijuu) and unleash a forbidden weapon capable of subjugating humanity.
Their opening gambit strikes the Hidden Sand Village, where Akatsuki members Deidara and Sasori kidnap the newly appointed Kazekage, Gaara. Meanwhile, Sasuke Uchiha trains mercilessly under the serpentine Orochimaru, consumed by an unquenchable thirst for power to avenge his slaughtered clan. When Orochimaru attempts to claim Sasuke's youthful body as his next vessel, Sasuke turns the tables, absorbing Orochimaru's chakra and assembling his own strike squad, "Hebi" (later renamed "Taka").
Sasuke tracks down his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. Their duel inside the Uchiha hideout features blinding Genjutsu mind-games and devastating fire ninjutsu, culminating in Itachi's trump card, the ethereal armor Susanoo. With his final ounce of strength, Itachi taps Sasuke's forehead with two bloody fingers and collapses dead.
Before Sasuke can absorb the victory, the masked mastermind Tobi (revealed later as Obito Uchiha posing as Madara) abducts him and unveils the tragic truth: Itachi never betrayed his family out of malice. The Uchiha clan had planned a violent coup d'etat that would have triggered a world war. Forced to choose between the annihilation of Konoha or eliminating his own kin, Itachi shouldered the burden of a traitor to preserve peace, negotiating only that the village spare his beloved little brother. Devastated and enraged at the elders of Konoha for exploiting Itachi, Sasuke awakens the Mangekyo Sharingan and vows to annihilate the Leaf Village entirely.
Jiraiya's Sacrifice and Pain's Devastation of Konoha
In the Rain Village, Master Jiraiya infiltrates enemy lines to unmask the Akatsuki's mysterious supreme leader, Pain. Facing the six bodies of Pain possessing the mythic Rinnegan eyes, Jiraiya awakens Sage Mode alongside Ma and Pa Toads. Despite losing an arm and having his throat crushed, Jiraiya realizes Pain's secret—"The real one is not among them"—and carves a coded message onto Pa Toad's back before sinking beneath the dark waters with a peaceful smile, entrusting the future to Naruto.
Grief-stricken by Jiraiya's demise, Naruto travels to Mount Myoboku to master Senjutsu (Sage Mode). While he trains, Pain unleashes an apocalypse upon Konoha, using the massive gravitational force "Shinra Tensei" (Almighty Push) to blast the village into a colossal crater. Naruto reverses-summoning directly into the ruins alongside giant toads, clad in a crimson sage coat. With the perfected Wind Style: Rasenshuriken, Naruto demolishes the Six Paths of Pain.
Tracking the chakra transmission rods to the emaciated real body of Nagato, Naruto chooses dialogue over revenge. The true legendary Madara Uchiha is resurrected via Edo Tensei, single-handedly wiping out entire shinobi divisions with meteors and the Perfect Susanoo. Six Paths Awakening, Kaguya Otsutsuki, and the Valley of the End
Madara extracts Kurama from Naruto and runs Sasuke through with his sword, bringing both heroes to the verge of death. In the subconscious realm, the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, appears before them, revealing that Naruto and Sasuke are the reincarnations of his sons, Asura and Indra. Bestowing Six Paths Yang power to Naruto and the Six Paths Yin Rinnegan to Sasuke, both ninjas revive with godlike abilities.
However, Black Zetsu betrays Madara, using his body as a catalyst to resurrect Kaguya Otsutsuki, the progenitor of all chakra on Earth. Across diverse dimensional planes of lava, ice, and hyper-gravity, Team 7 (Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi with dual Mangekyo Sharingan) unites. With Naruto's reverse-harem distraction, Obito's Kamui sacrifice, and Sakura's descending strike, Naruto and Sasuke place their palms together, enacting the Six Paths: Planetary Construction to permanently seal Kaguya.
With the world saved, Sasuke traps the nine Tailed Beasts inside Chibaku Tensei and declares a world revolution—planning to execute the Five Kage and shoulder all planetary hatred as a solitary shadow dictator. Naruto refuses to let his brother walk into eternal loneliness. They clash at the Valley of the End in a battle of planetary proportions, shattering the statues of Hashirama and Madara.
