The Awakening of Sukuna and Entrance into Jujutsu Society
In modern Japan, negative human emotions like sorrow, hatred, and shame coalesce into invisible, grotesque monsters known as Cursed Spirits. Ordinary people cannot perceive them, leaving the defense of society to an elite, secretive lineage of Jujutsu Sorcerers who manipulate their own Cursed Energy.
High school athletic prodigy Yuji Itadori spends his afternoons visiting his grandfather in the hospital. On his deathbed, his grandfather imparts a haunting final wish: "You're strong, Yuji. Help people. Make sure that when you die, you're surrounded by others. Don't end up like me."
Shortly after, Yuji's occult club accidentally unseals a Special Grade cursed object—a mummified finger belonging to Ryomen Sukuna, the legendary four-armed King of Curses from the Heian Era. When monstrous curses corner his friends and the young sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro, Yuji makes an unimaginable choice: he swallows the finger to acquire cursed power. To everyone's shock, rather than Sukuna overriding his mind permanently, Yuji proves to be a one-in-a-million vessel capable of retaining consciousness and restraining Sukuna.
The blindfolded special grade sorcerer Satoru Gojo intervenes. Although Jujutsu higher-ups decree that Yuji must be executed, Gojo brokers a stay of execution: Yuji will consume all twenty of Sukuna's fingers first, allowing Jujutsu society to permanently destroy the King of Curses upon Yuji's final demise.
Tokyo Jujutsu High, Nanami, and the Cruelty of Mahito
Yuji transfers to Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, bonding with the pragmatic Shadow Puppet user Megumi Fushiguro and the fierce, hammer-wielding country girl Nobara Kugisaki. During a mission at the Eishu Juvenile Detention Center, a Special Grade cursed womb forces Yuji to surrender control to Sukuna, who tears Yuji's heart out and kills him. Sukuna later resurrects Yuji in his innate domain via an ominous secret binding vow: Sukuna can take control of Yuji's body for one minute whenever he utters the word "Enchain," promising not to kill anyone during that minute.
Gojo pairs Yuji with ex-salaryman Grade 1 sorcerer Kento Nanami. They investigate a trail of transfigured corpses left behind by Mahito, a sadistic Special Grade curse born from humans' mutual hatred. Mahito manipulates a bullied high school boy named Junpei Yoshino, ultimately transfiguring Junpei into a grotesque monster in front of Yuji's eyes. This devastating trauma strips Yuji of his naivety, forging his ironclad determination to eliminate curses without mercy.
During the Kyoto Sister School Goodwill Event, Yuji masters Black Flash—a spatial distortion amplifying cursed strikes exponentially—under the quirky brotherhood of Kyoto third-year Aoi Todo. Together, Yuji and Todo repel an attack by Special Grade curse Hanami, cementing their iconic partnership.
Hidden Inventory: Gojo's Past and Suguru Geto's Fall
The narrative flashes back to 2006, when second-year students Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were close best friends and the undisputed "strongest duo" of Jujutsu High. Tasked with protecting Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel destined to merge with Master Tengen, they are ambushed by Toji Fushiguro, the "Sorcerer Killer" devoid of cursed energy due to Heavenly Restriction.
Toji slashes Gojo's throat and shoots Riko through the head. On the precipice of death, Gojo grasps the core of cursed energy, unlocking the Reverse Cursed Technique to heal himself and unleashing the ultimate collision technique: Hollow Purple, obliterating Toji. In ecstasy, Gojo proclaims: "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one."
Conversely, witnessing non-sorcerers applaud Riko's murder shatters Suguru Geto's moral compass. Sick of swallowing vile curses to protect weak humans, Geto defects, slaughters an entire village, and vows to exterminate all non-sorcerers to eradicate cursed energy at its source. Years later, after Geto is fatally wounded in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 by Yuta Okkotsu, the ancient parasite sorcerer Kenjaku hijacks Geto's corpse, orchestrating the greatest trap in sorcerer history.
The Shibuya Incident: The Sealing of Gojo and Pure Chaos
On Halloween night in Shibuya, Kenjaku, Mahito, Jogo, and Choso construct a dense curtain trapping thousands of civilians to force Satoru Gojo into close-quarters combat on the subway platform without using his Domain Expansion. When Gojo activates an astonishing 0.2-second Unlimited Void to incapacitate transfigured humans, Kenjaku drops the Special Grade cursed artifact: the Prison Realm. Flashing Geto's smiling face before Gojo's Six Eyes, Kenjaku captures Gojo's mind for the required single mental minute and seals the world's strongest sorcerer inside the unbreachable cube.
With Gojo incapacitated, Shibuya descends into pure hell. Kento Nanami is horrifically burned and subsequently obliterated by Mahito right before Yuji's eyes. Nobara Kugisaki has her face and eye ruptured by Mahito's Idle Transfiguration.
Forced to ingest ten Sukuna fingers at once, Yuji temporarily loses control. Sukuna awakens at 15-finger power, summons the apocalyptic Malevolent Shrine, and dices a massive radius of Shibuya into dust before vaporizing the legendary untamed shikigami, General Mahoraga, with a colossal divine flame arrow.
Returning to his body amidst the ashes of thousands of innocent victims, Yuji suffers an emotional collapse. Yet, with Aoi Todo's arrival, Yuji rises to deliver the legendary beatdown against Mahito, stating calmly: "I'm you, Mahito. Even if you come back as another curse, I will kill you."
Kenjaku absorbs Mahito through Cursed Spirit Manipulation and activates Idle Transfiguration remotely, awakening ancient cursed sorcerers across Japan and plunging the nation into the deadly tournament known as the Culling Game.
