The Awakening of Hunters and the Double Dungeon Catastrophe
A decade ago, mysterious dimensional portals known as "Gates" opened across the earth, connecting our reality with treacherous dungeons teeming with bloodthirsty monsters. Conventional military weapons proved useless against these beasts, but certain humans underwent an "Awakening," receiving supernatural mana and physical prowess. These individuals became Hunters, ranked strictly from E-Rank (the weakest) to S-Rank (living weapons of mass destruction).
Our protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, is universally ridiculed as "The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind." Because awakening mana is fixed for life without any means to increase it, Jinwoo repeatedly suffers life-threatening wounds even in the easiest E-Rank dungeons. Yet, driven by the need to pay hospital fees for his comatose mother suffering from the magical illness "Eternal Slumber" and finance his younger sister Jinah's education, Jinwoo refuses to walk away.
During what seemed like a routine D-Rank raid, Jinwoo's party discovers a hidden chamber—a forbidden "Double Dungeon." Inside the grand Cartenon Temple, colossal stone statues lock the gates and slaughter the hunters systematically. In this gruesome crucible, Jinwoo deciphers the temple's deadly commandments ("Praise God," "Praise the King," "Prove Your Faith"). When the surviving hunters abandon him, Jinwoo offers himself as the final sacrifice on the altar. At the brink of decapitation, instead of dying, a glowing holographic screen materializes: "Congratulations on becoming a Player."
The Secret System and the Daily Quests
Jinwoo awakens days later in a hospital bed with his amputated leg miraculously restored. Floating before his eyes is an interface visible solely to him, akin to a role-playing video game. The System imposes a grueling daily quest: 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10 km run, penalizing failure with banishment into a deadly survival desert zone.
By completing daily regimens and conquering private Instant Dungeons accessed via mysterious keys, Jinwoo earns stat points, gold, inventory items, and rare combat skills. Unlike any other hunter in human history whose power remains static forever, Jinwoo discovers that he can continually level up his strength, agility, intelligence, and vitality without limit.
Survival in the Dungeons and the Cold Reality of Hunters
Entering a C-Rank dungeon alongside an unscrupulous strike squad led by Hwang Dongsuk, Jinwoo and a rich novice hunter named Yoo Jinho are betrayed and sealed inside the boss lair with a giant spider monster. Pushed to the edge, Jinwoo single-handedly slays the beast. When Dongsuk and his squad return to murder them to cover their tracks, the System issues an emergency quest: "Kill all hostile enemies to ensure survival." With chilling resolve, Jinwoo executes the treacherous hunters, learning that the world of hunters is governed strictly by the law of the jungle.
Recognizing Jinwoo's true nature and overwhelming strength, Yoo Jinho forms an unbreakable bond of loyalty with him, partnering to conquer multiple low-rank dungeons together so Jinho can qualify for a Guild Master license while Jinwoo stealthily grinds experience.
Job Change Quest: The Birth of the Shadow Monarch
Jinwoo reaches level 50 and is summoned to a perilous Job Change Quest dungeon. After hacking through infinite waves of armored knights, he faces the formidable boss: Blood-Red Commander Igris. In a grueling, unarmed fist-to-blade duel, Jinwoo narrowly defeats Igris.
Upon completion, the System reveals his designated class: not an Assassin or Fighter, but a Necromancer. Because he accumulated surplus points and never used teleportation crystals to flee, his class undergoes a legendary evolution into the Shadow Monarch. Jinwoo speaks the iconic command word: "ARISE." The souls of the fallen warriors and Igris himself rise from their shadows as loyal, pitch-black phantom soldiers with glowing violet mana. From that moment forward, Jinwoo commands an immortal personal army that grows every time he fells an opponent.
Demon Castle, S-Rank Re-evaluation, and Jeju Island
With his shadow army spearheaded by Igris, Iron, and Tank, Jinwoo conquers the Demon Castle to gather ingredients for the "Purified Water of Life"—a divine elixir capable of curing any mortal ailment. He successfully cures his mother from Eternal Slumber, bringing tears of joy to his family.
When Jinwoo takes a formal hunter re-test at the Korean Hunter Association, the mana measuring device shatters, officially confirming him as South Korea's tenth S-Rank Hunter. When the catastrophic S-Rank Ant disaster erupts on Jeju Island—annihilating elite hunters and Japanese specialists alike—Jinwoo arrives via shadow exchange, executes the monstrous Ant King Beru, and converts him into his most terrifying shadow general.
As the story deepens, Jinwoo uncovers the cosmic war between the Rulers and the Monarchs, realizing that the System was engineered by the Architect to groom Jinwoo into the vessel of the supreme Monarch of Shadows. Choosing humanity over oblivion, Jinwoo embraces his destiny as Earth's solitary savior.
